The
Governor's Mansion - First Investigation
Hampton Falls, NH - August 01,
2010
On August 1, 2010, Souhegan Paranormal Investigators had the privilege
to conduct an investigation at the Governor's Mansion in Hampton Falls, NH. Attendees from SPI included Sue, Matt,
John, Patti, Debbie and Michelle.
History:
The Honorable Warren Brown was born August 11, 1836, and died September
19, 1919. He married Sarah Gertrude Norris on January 1, 1867, and together they had five
children. Sarah died January 24, 1917. Warren Brown was a state senator from
1872-1873. It is said that he decided to run for Governor of New Hampshire and was so
confident of winning that he built a huge Victorian mansion in 1880 known as "Sunnyside".
Unfortunately, he lost the election. In later years, the mansion was referred to as the "Governor's
Mansion". The property was
acquired by the current owners, Mr. and Mrs. George Blaisdell in 2000. George is an insurance
broker and designs benefit plans for larger organizations and employers. He stumbled upon this home
when not even in the market to purchase a new residence.
A unique series of events led
George and his family to Hampton Falls, NH. During the first weekend in August of 1999, George was on a white
water rafting trip in Northern New Hampshire. It was late in the day on that Saturday when he and his friends
were going through the last set of rapids when all of a sudden George fell overboard and was trapped underneath
the raft. George suffered a severe concussion including the loss of his eyesight. He was taken from the campsite
to Colebrook Hospital in Colebrook, New Hampshire. The doctor there said that the concussion was severe and
there was nothing they could do so he was brought back home early Sunday morning. While waiting to go to the
Emergency Room, George asked his wife, Michelle, to read him the Real Estate section of the newspaper. Neither
of them was planning to move or purchase another residence at this time. Michelle started to read aloud one of
the advertisements that read, “Step back in time and own a piece of history, an incredible and dramatic landmark
in Hampton Falls-the old Governor’s Mansion”. George immediately exclaimed, “Let’s go see it!” After the
Emergency Room appointment, George called his Real Estate friend to set up a viewing of the property. After the
neurologist visit on Monday morning, they went to see the property. George could just make out shadows and fuzzy
images. The instant George walked through the front doors of the home he knew he belonged there. He recalls
asking his wife, “Does the staircase railing have a woman holding a light?” She said “yes”. He immediately made
an offer on the home and an intense renovation project soon was underway………
Below is an
in-depth description of the paranormal activity that George, his family and friends, and his employees have
experienced. Ninety-nine percent of this story is written in George's own words. He has lived
this story and can tell it better than anyone else.
The
Windmill:
The windmill was in tremendous
disrepair when the property was purchased. The roof had been leaking since it's erection in 1902. Every
floorboard was rotted or brittle, and every window was broken. The first project was to get the windmill weather
tight and have a base of operations to start the repairs. The building was stripped. Every floorboard was
removed. Salvageable materials were kept to be used later. The structural integrity of the building was
stabilized. The building was put back together in great part with materials that were part of it. A concrete
footing and floor was poured; new electrical was installed; the building was insulated and the interior was
refinished. Now a workshop was ready to handle the massive project that lay ahead.
- The first floor of the
windmill was the original workshop. Other floors were used for random storage as needed. On 4 or 5
occasions when working in the workshop, out of the corner of his eye, George would see something move
outside. When he turned to look out the window, he saw little red orbs which appeared to be watching the
activity in the mill, but if he looked at them they would dart out of sight. They appeared to be reactive
and intelligent in nature, not random in any way. Both George and his helper witnessed these lights and
both felt they were much more than fire flies or the like.
- In August of 2007, one of the renovation workers who lived
in the guest house adjacent to the windmill (approximately 20 feet between buildings) heard a woman’s voice
crying out at 3:30 a.m., “Help me, help me.” He insists the cry continued for over 15 minutes. This
happened on 3 separate occasions. When asked, "What did you do?" the worker replied, “Turned up my radio.
I’m not going in there at night.”
