Investigation's at South
Yard Burial Ground, Wilton,
NH
September 15, 2008 and October 10, 2008
First Investigation: On September 15, 2008, Mario,
Irene, and I investigated the South Yard Burial Ground in Wilton, NH, which dates back to the late 1700's or early
1800's. It is not called a cemetery because cemeteries are like parks. They have lawns and flower plantings and
didn't come into existence until much later. In the older parts of this graveyard/burial ground, there are no
shrubs and no flowers. There is also very little grass. It is not known when the South Yard Burial Ground was
established, but the oldest date is on the stone marking the grave of Jonathan Livermore as having died July 20,
1809. An article about this burial ground appeared in our local newspaper peaking our curiosity about two sisters
who were murdered. It read that the women were murderd in 1875 by Ida's husband, Ellis Willis Major, who poisoned
them with strychnine. Ida was 20 years old and expecting her fifth child. Two other children died shortly after
birth and Major is suspected of murdering them as well. Ella was also pregnant, susposedly by Major, a fact
discovered after her body was exhumed for testing during the trial of Ellis Willis Major. After two trials, he was
found guilty and executed. The graves of Ida and Ella Lovejoy, as well as Ellis Willis Major, reside midway and to
the right in the burial ground. We brought our digital cameras and our EVP (electronic voice phenomena) recorders
with us. We arrived at approximately 3:00 p.m. and separated to investigate different parts of the burial ground.
When we reviewed our evidence, we found that Mario had captured an astonishing EVP at the gravesites of Ella and
Ida Lovejoy. Mario was using his EVP recorder and was saying, "Ella and Ida" and a female voice can be heard saying
"yup". Mario continues his sentence saying their last name "Lovejoy", and the same female voice is heard saying
"yup". Toward the end of the sentence, Mario is saying that he read in the newspaper article that they left this
earthplane unnaturally before their time because they were murdered, and as he is saying the word "murdered", the
same female voice is heard saying "poisoned". This EVP is very, very clear.

Second Investigation: On October 10, 2008, Bill, Chris,
Mario, Irene and I returned for a second investigation. We had our digital cameras and our EVP recorders with us.
We arrived at approximately 2:30 p.m., and separated to investigate different areas of the burial ground. On this
second investigation, I was doing some EVP work at the gravesite of Reverend Jonathan Livermore, who died July 20,
1809, at the age of 79 years old. His tombstone reads that he was the first Minister of This Town and also The
First Tenant of this Graveyard. As I was leaving Rev. Livermore's gravesite, I was speaking into my EVP recorder
telling him "...perhaps I will stop back by before we leave the cemetery", and a male voice can be heard saying,
"yes, yes". That was the only recording we captured. We did not capture any video.
