Private Residence in Ossipee, NH
(First Investigation) February 13, 2010

On February 13, 2010, the Souhegan Paranormal Investigators and guests had the opportunity to investigate a private residence in Ossipee, NH. We had 5 people attend this investigation. Attendees from the SPI group were Susan, John, and Patti. Also, our good friends, Debbie and Matt assisted with this investigation. Our clients toured the property with us so we would have a unique understanding of its history.

History:  The original farm house was built around 1840 by a local farmer whose surname was Giles.  In 1873, Giles sold the property, along with 150 acres of land to the Nichols family for $100.00 who lived there for a long time.  Some of the Nichols family members are buried on the next door neighbor’s property. Established on our client’s property are two known gravesites; one of them being that of Samuel Nutt born in Wolfeboro, NH, in 1844 and died in Walpole, NH, on Sept. 16, 1865 of a disease.  According to his tombstone, he served from 1864 to 1865 in the army during the Civil War and served in the 12^th Infantry, Co. F. We have not been able to make a connection of the Nutt family to this property, but it is still a work in progress. There is a burial plot in Wolfeboro, NH, established May 29, 1909, to whom Samuel Nutt is connected.  Though Samuel’s name appears on the family tombstone, there is a notation in the records that Samuel Nutt’s body may have been moved.  If you follow the paper trail, it appears that Samuel’s remains were never actually interred in Wolfeboro and that they actually lie on our client’s property, but we cannot be sure as to why he is buried there. 

A second gravesite was discovered on the property.  A medium has suggested that this is the burial site of a young child, but we do not know anything about the remains that lie there.

Two previous owners of this house sold the property due to their claims of paranormal activity. Our clients purchased and moved into the property in 2008 and have experienced an abundance of paranormal activity from the onset.   Most of the activity seems to happen in the downstairs kitchen, living room, bathroom and master bedroom. While sleeping, they have been awakened by the presence of a black shadow standing at the foot of their bed. They have had electric candles that turn on and off by themselves. One candle was taped to the sill of a kitchen window and fell onto the floor. They have items such as pictures that fall off the wall, hit the floor and they hear the shattering of glass. It appears that hearing items break and shatter is not unusual. They have seen golden colored orbs in their bathroom at night moving across the room. Though they cannot make out what is being said, on occasion, they also hear whispering and laughter.

The Investigation: With everyones help, we were able to set up our equipment in a timely fashion. We first began investigating the areas outside in and around the burial sites of Samuel Nutt and the unknown child. When viewing our photo gallery, you will see the photo of a pine tree that appears to have several orbs around it. This pine tree is centrally located between the two burial sites. You will also see photos containing some pretty interesting looking orbs.

Matt had set up one of his video recorders on a tripod and left it running while we went inside to continue our investigation. The camera was set on “night shot”, but at the end of the evening when he retrieved the camera the setting had been changed and was no longer on night shot.

The First Bedroom:  There was once a rocking chair stored in this room that belonged to and was used by the grandmother of our client. It is no longer there, but we were told by our client that it would rock back and forth on its own. When Sue and Debbie were investigating this bedroom, they captured some interesting EVP’s. Sue was saying, “Do you live in this room? Is this where you stay all the time?” At position :06, a sound can be heard and at position :09, a female can be heard saying, “Scuse me.”        Sue then said, “Can you tap on the wall? Can you go 1,2,3?” At positions :15, :16, and :17, you can hear three consecutive taps.        While Patti, John, and Matt were investigating in this room, they captured the following EVP's. John was asking, “Is Harley in there?” (Harley is a cat). At positions :04 and :05, there are two separate female responses that can be heard saying. “no”. Patti was the only female in that room and she knows this was not a response that she created. 

The Second Bedroom:  Our client’s daughter used to sleep in this bedroom before she left home, and we were told that the daughter had placed her television on the bed and moments later the television lifted off the bed and dropped to the floor. We did capture a tap/knock in this room. Sue was asking, “Are you a male?” and at position :15 you can hear the knock/tap. Debbie and Sue heard this live. Sue asked Debbie what it was and Debbie said, “I don’t know.”      In our photo gallery, you will also see a picture that Debbie captured of a purple anomaly in the dresser mirror. We checked thoroughly to make sure this was not a reflection coming from the lampshade or any other object in the room. We could not explain it.

The Master Bedroom:  Though we were hoping to find evidence in the master bedroom of the shadow person, and of other events that happen, we did not capture any evidence that evening. However, when Patti, John, and Matt were investigating the bedroom, Matt did hear with his naked ear a rustling sound and an exhale of breath.   This was not captured on any of their recorders.

The Kitchen: The kitchen was the highlight of the evening.  We gathered together as a group to investigate the kitchen.  Our clients joined us as well.  This may have been one of the reasons why it was so active.  It is said that spirits/ghosts like gala events.  Perhaps they thought we were having a party and decided to join us.

We captured not only EVP’s on our recorders, but Matt was able to capture a blue mist on his camera as it moved around the kitchen.  Also captured was a beautiful green orb with many colors in it.  Please visit our photo gallery to see the different areas where the blue mist was captured and to see the beautiful orb.  Below are several of the EVP’s we captured in the kitchen.

·          Before you hear Sue speak, at position :17, you will hear 3 syllables of what sounds like a male humming. Then you will hear Sue say, “ If you are really here with us tonight, we would really like to communicate with you.” At position :25, there are two loud knocks. Sue then begins to speak about the KII meter and at position :48, there are four heavy footsteps that sound like someone wearing heavy boots is walking across the floor.    This occurred at approximately 11:45 p.m. John began feeling a cold spot at approximately 11:46 p.m. Matt began taking temperature readings and within a 3 minute timeframe, the temperature fluctuated up and down at 60 degrees, then 73 degrees, then 63 degrees, and finally 74 degrees. It is believed that when a ghost/spirit is attempting manifestation, the ambient temperature will drop because they need the energy to manifest.

·          Sue said, “We visited your grave earlier this evening. We paid our respects.” At position :17, can be heard a male saying, “yaaaah”. 

·          Sue said, “Who walks up and down the stairs? What is your name please?” At position :12, there are two entities that speak. One entity sounds like he is clearing his throat, and while that is happening, a second entity is answering the question and replying a name that sounds similar to Harry, Larry, or Lyman Kimball. Finally, there are 3 syllables of grunting sounds.     This all happens in a very short period of time between positions :12 and :17.

Note: Following our investigation, we checked with our clients and found that they have a town map dated in the 1800’s. There are several Kimball’s listed as property owners. There is an L. Kimball listed who actually lived on this street three houses down from the property we investigated. On a census listing, there is also a Lyman Kimball mentioned that died when he was four and a half months old.

·          There was a conversation taking place about an old bottle that the homeowner’s had found in the grave of the young child. The conversation is loud, but if you listen closely, at positions :12 and :16, you will hear a male entity saying, “That’s too scary.” We know for sure it wasn’t any one of us. The phrase is being said twice four seconds apart.  

·          Sue was saying, “Please help us to identify you.” At position :10, a female entity is heard saying what we think is, “Get the brush.” 

The Living Room: While investigating in the master bedroom which is across the hall from the living room, Sue had left an EVP recorder running in the living room. These are the EVP’s that were captured on this recorder.

·          Sue asked, “Are you sad that they want to leave this home?” At position :35 there are two loud knocks.  

·          Sue asked, “Can you tell us your name please, and at position :24 there is a response that says, “no”. Sue then asked, "Are you a male?" and at position :40 a female response is heard that sounds like "uh, uh". Sue continues to speak and says, "You showed yourself as a shadow..." and at position 1:14, and entity can be heard saying "no".  

·        John’s EVP recorder shut off. Patti was asking why the recorder was shutting off and at position :09 is an exhale.  Sue asked, “Can you give us a sign by knocking on the wall” and this recorder captured a loud thump/knock at position :27. She then said, “Patti, John, and Matt were here…” and at position :36 is a response, “yeah”.  

We feel it is also worth mentioning that throughout the night, Debbie’s EVP recorder acted strange. Sometimes when we were asking the ghosts/spirits questions, the red light on her recorder would light up. It is not abnormal to have the red light on an EVP recorder light up and/or blink due to low batteries. What seemed strange in some instances was that the red light would blink sometimes once (which we suggested might be a “yes” answer), sometimes twice (which we suggested might be a “no” answer), sometimes three times (which we suggested might be a “maybe” answer), and sometimes four times (which we had no idea what that would mean). As an example, we asked if there was more than one spirit in the house and it blinked once. We also said, “You don’t have to be shy.” It blinked four times. We are not concluding that her EVP recorder was acting as an instrument designed to provide answers for us, but we are perplexed by the coincidence.

Conclusion:  From our experience we conclude there is definite paranormal activity at this residence. Per the request of our clients, we look forward to conducting a second investigation on March 13, 2010.  We captured some pictures during the investigation to share with you.
