Private Residence in Ashburnham, MA
(First Investigation)  November 21, 2009

This private property was purchased by its current owners in the summer of 2009. For privacy purposes, we will refer to the female as "K and to the male as M". While perusing one of the upstairs bedroom, "K" felt as if her leg had been grabbed and squeezed. She also felt an eerie feeling when she went in the cellar. Renovations have been started on the home. They contacted SPI to request an investigation to see if we could determine what might be going on.

History :  There really isn't much known history at this time other than the residence had been built between 1730 and 1750. It had been given to British colonists as compensation for having fought in the French and Indian War.

The Investigation:  Upon our arrival at approximately 6:30 p.m., we met the owners outside and took some photos.  In the image gallery, you will see a couple of very interesting photos that were captured by Patti before the investigation even began.  We saged ourselves and offered the homeowners and their guest to be saged before entering the premises.  We then went inside and did a walk through to check out the "hot spots", etc.  John, Susan, and Patti set up the equipment. We then assembled as a group and said a protection prayer.  "K" and "M", their guest, and John, Patti, and Susan went to the upstairs bedroom where we felt we should put forth our concentration being that "K" was grabbed in that room.  There was no heat in the house, so we knew our stay would be for a limited amount of time.  We started the investigation at approximately 7:20 p.m.

John, Patti, and Susan were doing individual EVP sessions. Patti was using the dowsing rods. At 7:55:25, we captured a mist on our DVR recorder that appeared to rise up from the middle of the room and move swiftly toward the adjacent room and then disappear. At 8:03:38, we captured an anomaly on the DVR that appeared to be manifesting behind Susan, and then very quickly rose and flew out into the room between John and Susan toward the opposite side of the room. A photo of this anomoly can be seen in the image gallery. (Some of you may feel that this was an insect of sorts, but it is much too large to be any kind of insect.) The anomaly disappeared out of the IR camera's site, so we don't know what actually transpired when it was out of site. Within seconds, the IR camera caught a small blinking "ghost light" near the middle of the room, and at 8:05:32, a huge solid white orb floated across the room, rose upward, and floated back to the opposite side of the room from whence it came. (The video can be viewed at the bottom of this page.) The owner's guest, who wishes to remain nameless, was sitting on a 3 rung stepladder and began rocking back and forth. She asked us to explain her movements, but we could not give her an explanation. She did not feel that she was causing herself to rock. Was there an unseen energy in the room causing the rocking motion? We cannot answer that question.

The following EVP's were captured in this bedroom: 

1. We were settling in to begin our EVP session and Patti caught this on her recorder. At position :06 is a whispered "okay" followed by Susan saying okay, and at position :14 is a whispered "I'm here."
2.  Patti was asking about using the dowsing rods and said she would need more light. At position :10, you can hear a whispered "kay" for okay and at position :14 we are not sure if being whispered is another "kay" or the name "Patti."
3. We all heard a noise and began discussing where it came from. You will hear someone say, "I thought it was like a scratch", and at position :28, you will hear a whispered voice that sounds female say, "Yeah, like a scratch."   
4.  Patti was asking how the spirits will feel when they start tearing down the walls and she said, "How do you feel about that?" At position :09, there is a noise like a tap.
5. We heard another noise and Patti thought it was coming from behind John. She asked if it was something outside, and at position :07 you can hear a whispered "yes".

The following EVP was captured in the downstairs dining area:

1. John was walking around doing some EVP work. He had said it was getting chilly and a minute or so later Patti captured this EVP that sounds like a female saying, "It's chilly in here."

Our assessment of this investigation is such that we feel enough evidence was captured to say that this property has paranormal activity. We will be returning January 16, 2010, to conduct a second investigation to see what additional, if any, evidence we can collect.

Description of video:  At position :27, the anomaly can be seen leaving the right side of the room and moving toward the left.  At position :28, a tiny ghost light flashes one time near the center of the room just above John's hand, and at position 1:45, a large orb enters from the left of the room, moves toward the right, turns upward, and returns to the left side of the room.  It is our belief that the anomaly was attempting to manifest.
