Mulligan's Restaurant, Northfield, NH
 (First Investigation)  October 4, 2009

On Sunday evening, October 4, 2009, the SPI (Souhegan Paranormal Investigators) group ventured to Mulligan's Restaurant in Northfield, NH.  Attending this investigation was Sue, Irene, Mario, Rita, Patti and John, and our friends, Dianne and Distant Wolf.  We were also joined by Psychic/Medium Nick Sangillo who is a close friend of the proprietor's of the restaurant.  The owner's of Mulligan's, Chris and Betty, had been having unusual activity for quite some time and called SPI in to see if we could determine why this unusual activity was happening.

History :  Betty and Chris have owned Mulligan's Restaurant since 2002, and have experienced oddities such as sightings of mist in human form, objects moving, a piano playing on its own, etc. Recently, Betty closed the restaurant for the evening and as part of the closing routine, she activated the alarms and motion detector. When she and Chris opened the restaurant the following morning, they found 3 bowls (a large salad bowl and two mixing bowls) lined up on the kitchen floor in a straight line, right side up next to each other. In the past, because the motion detector/alarms are so sensitive that if something accidentally fell, or any other type of motion occurred, the detectors would go off and the police would contact them. However, the salad bowls were sitting neatly in a line on the floor and the detectors didn't sound any alarm. This home (now a restaurant) was originally built in 1862.

The Investigation:  Prior to beginning the investigation, we said a prayer and Distant Wolf and Dianne (Psychics/Mediums) performed a ceremony of protection by saging each one of us.

Below is a summary of Distant Wolf's findings: 

Before entering the building, Distant Wolf requested permission from the spirits to enter.  He was granted permission.  Prior to entering the building, Distant Wolf got a reading that a short time after the house was built, it became a boarding house.  (This was somewhat confirmed by the owners.)  As he approached the doorway to enter the building, he was greeted with the feelings of a big man with large hands standing in the entryway.  Distant Wolf walked around the dining room where the old piano resides, and he felt the presence of a female playing the piano.  When he checked out the bar area, he saw a shot glass on the bar that he knew had not been there the night before.  He felt the movement of the liquor bottles that sit on the shelves behind the bar.

Distant Wolf has time travel abilities, and by using his ability he was able to see a political meeting being held in the front room of this home and many prominent men were in attendance. The date was 1864. At that time, the front room had two very good sized fireplaces. They are no longer there and show no signs of ever having been there. (The fireplaces were confirmed by the owners as being there in 1864.) At this meeting, a discussion was being held either about moving the State House from Exeter, NH, to Concord, NH, or about the New Hampshire Constitution. Distant Wolf was not able to receive clarification about this conversation.

There is a closet in the hall between the kitchen and dining room where the braided rug hangs. Distant Wolf was using the dowsing rods and revealed that this closet is a vortex with a lot of energy and movement. The guest psychic, Nick Sangillo, who previously investigated Mulligan's Restaurant confirmed that he agreed to these findings.

Distant Wolf was sitting in the two front dining rooms relaxing a bit when his spirit guide told him of a young boy who drowned by the name of Joshua. Joshua can be very nasty. He shows himself in the form he was found in floating in the water. His face is bloated and covered with decomposed skin. His eyes are sunken and he projects very pale skin color. It is Distant Wolf's understanding that Joshua was psychically removed from the property years ago by Nick Sangillo because of his actions. However, Distant Wolf is still able to feel a connection between Joshua and the property.

Toward the end of the investigation, Distant Wolf was chatting with Betty and Chris (the current owners of Mulligan's). He was approached by a female spirit that wanted to communicate with the female owner of Mulligan's. That information will not be revealed here as it is private information.

Nick Sangillo, the guest psychic, told all of us that Distant Wolf has extreme psychic powers. Nick came to this conclusion by observing Distant Wolf and by watching the quad system we had running while doing our investigation. (A quad system is a combination DVR and TV that are connected to one another. We hook up four infrared cameras to the DVR. The DVR captures the video and outputs it to the TV screen. Quad means four (4), which enables us to watch four different areas at one time.) When Distant Wolf walked in the individual rooms throughout the building, Nick observed on the quad system that orbs would hastily leave that particular room and flee elsewhere.

The Dining Room (Upper Level):  In the dining room where the braided rug hangs on the wall is a table with four chairs that is situated in the far right corner of the room. Distant Wolf was getting a feel for this room and learned that the chair that sets in the far right corner belongs to the man with the big hands whose name is Edwin Cross.  Mr. Cross does not like anyone sitting in his chair, nor does he appreciate anyone sitting at the table. He is known to move things around.

When Rita and Sue were sitting at this same table where Edwin Cross claims his seat, Sue heard the sound of a chime. She asked Rita if she had heard it, but Rita didn't hear it. Rita was sitting in Edwin's chair doing some EVP work asking Edwin to give us a sign to let us know if he was there with us. Within the first three (3) minutes, Rita experienced a tightening of the throat and said she felt like there was a rope around her neck. She was having difficulty breathing, so she and Sue switched chairs. Rita was relieved of her symptoms.

Later in the evening, Dianne sat in the chair Edwin Cross claims to be his, and she experienced heavy feelings in her chest area. Patti and John were sitting at the table with her, and Distant Wolf was using his dowsing rods. Dianne was trying to entice Edwin to move the chair or to give her some sign that he was there. Dianne was saying, "C'mon, you can do it" and Patti captured an EVP of a female saying, "yeah, yeah".   Patti took her turn sitting in Edwin's chair and while sitting there she experienced some pain in her left shoulder that did not go away until she got up from the chair. This may have been a coincidence, but we thought it as being a bit unusual seeing that others that sat in the chair also seemed to have a personal experience.

While John was investigating, he was doing some EVP work and asking Edwin to give us a sign. At position :01, listen carefully and in the background can be heard words that are inaudible.

If you check out our photo gallery, you will see a picture taken in this dining room by Mario and Irene. There is a good sized orb showing itself to the cameras.

The Dining Room (Lower Level):  When Sue and Rita were investigating the upper level dining room, Mario and Irene were investigating the lower level dining room. (The upper level and lower level dining rooms are side by side and very open to one another.) The lower level is where a very old piano resides. Mario was doing some EVP work asking if anyone was with us if they could play the piano for us. It was during this same time that Sue heard a chime ring and asked Rita if she heard it. Rita had not heard it. When she later asked Mario and Irene if they had heard anything they said no. However, the chime (or what sounds like a chime), along with a "no", as well as the "piano playing" was captured on Mario's EVP. Listen carefully, and you will hear Mario say "Could you please do that for me tonight?" and immediately following his words, at position :12, you will hear the chime ring. Mario speaks again and says, "Can you please do that for me?" and at position :16; you will hear "no", and at position :23 you can hear what sounds like four notes being played on the piano.   If you had a difficult time hearing the "piano play", here is an isolated clip of that sound.   To be fair, it should be known that some of us think it is the piano playing while others feel it is not the piano, but may be something else. We will let you, the reader, decide. Mario also captured a second EVP re: the piano when he asked, "Do you not want to play the piano tonight?" At position :45 a disembodied voice is heard saying, "no".   While Mario was doing EVP work, Irene was taking photos. Check our photo gallery to see the picture of the piano they captured with the orb on it.

The Entryway: The lower level dining room and the entryway abut one another, and it is right in this area that the piano is located.  Mario was doing some EVP work and captured a "thump".  You will hear Mario ask, "Can you speak to me...".  At position :23 when Mario says, "Could you give me a sound?" you can hear a thump. 

The Kitchen Area: While investigating the kitchen area, Distant Wolf reported "seeing" a suicide that happened on the property in the barn which is now a storage area attached to the kitchen of the restaurant.  He saw the large male, Edwin Cross, on the second floor of the barn.  A very long rope was around his neck. When Edwin Cross jumped to his death, he all but landed on the first floor due to the rope being so long.  His life work was that of a farmer. 

When Dianne was investigating the kitchen area she experienced a heavy chest similar to the feeling she experienced in the upper dining room. Upon leaving the kitchen area, the heaviness in her chest resided.

The Tavern Area:  Patti and Nick were in the tavern area discussing the entity who is known as Aguina.  The owners, Betty and Chris leave a shot glass of Scotch on a shelf every night for Aguina.  Sometimes, when they come in the next day, the shot glass  is empty.  Nick was telling Patti how Aguina liked her "booze" and shortly thereafter, at position :06, Patti captured the following EVP that says, "...dares you."  There is a word in front of "dares you", but we cannot determine what it says. 

The Back Porch:  Distant Wolf  was sitting on the back porch taking a short break. While sitting there, he was shown a female with the first name of Katherine. Katherine was rather sickly and was enroute, via stagecoach, to Concord, NH, for treatment. She was in her 40's with whitish/gray hair. The stagecoach was in need of repair and had stopped at the station (now known as Mulligan's Restaurant) to let Katherine disembark. The stagecoach then went to a blacksmith's shop which was 3-4 houses down the road from the station. Once the stagecoach was readied to continue it's journey, Katherine boarded, and while enroute to Concord she died. Distant Wolf and Dianne captured a couple of photos of mist while they were on the back porch. Check our photo gallery to see what they captured.

SPI's conclusion is that Mulligan's Restaurant harbors paranormal activity.
