Investigation of Lydia Pinkham’s
Tomb
October 11,
2008
The Souhegan Paranormal
Investigators (SPI) arrived in Seabrook, NH to investigate
the Wm. Gove Tomb (also known as Lydia Pinkham’s Tomb) at approximately 7:00 p.m. on October 11, 2008. In attendance were Chris, Bill,
Susan, Irene, and Mario. Accompanying our group was Shalimar who is a catalyst for the universe and
with her special heavenly gifts was able to assist us in our investigation such as locating “energy” hot spots,
etc. Our tour guide was Monica, a descendant of the Gove family.
History: Lydia E. Pinkham was born in 1819 and died
1883. Lydia was the dominant woman of her times. Oliver Wendell Holmes, William Lloyd Garrison,
Susan B. Anthony, Frederick Douglas and many others were not strangers to the Pinkham
household. Her name, picture, and medicine became world famous and they allowed her brothers,
sons, and grandchildren to successfully market her vegetable compound well into the 20th
century. The ingredients in Lydia’s compound were never a secret: licorice, chamomile, pleurisy root, Jamaica dogwood, black cohosh, life plant, fenugreek seed
and dandelion root. Little wonder that no one ever copied or tried to imitate it.
Now that you have an idea as to
who Lydia Pinkham is let me begin by telling you that contrary to belief Lydia Pinkham is not entombed in the
Wm. Gove Tomb. Lydia Pinkham is buried in the Pine Grove Cemetery in Lynn, MA. However, Lydia’s daughter, whose name is also Lydia Pinkham is entombed,
along with several other of her relatives in the Wm. Gove Tomb and the tomb is said to be haunted.
The tomb is constructed of bricks and concrete and has a heavy metal door in the front.
Investigation: We began our investigation at approximately 7:45 p.m. We used our EMF (electromagnetic
field) meters, cameras and our EVP (electronic voice phenomena) recorders to investigate outside of the
tomb. The investigation ended at approximately 11:15
p.m.
There were a few interesting events that occurred during the investigation. Shalimar was using
her digital camera and while taking pictures of the surroundings outside the tomb, the screen on her camera
turned a variety of speckled colors indicating that she was surrounded by energy that was unexplainable. Sue
was standing right next to her taking pictures with my digital camera and she did not have anything unusual
on her screen. This happened to Shalimar on more than one occasion in different areas around the
tomb.
Note: Using headphones will help enhance the audio for your listening
pleasure.
Our
Evidence - In The Front of The Tomb:
Bill had placed the EMF meter on the front step of the tomb and within a short period of time
the lights began to blink. Assuming that we might be able to make some contact with an entity buried
within the tomb, Monica began to ask questions. When she asked, “Are we upsetting you?” there was a
response on the EVP recorder that sounds like a female replying, “Guess so.”
Bill snapped some pictures and caught a picture with a few orbs; one of them being brighter than the
others.
When Sue was investigating in the front of the tomb, she was reciting the names of the persons
that are entombed, and when she asked, “Did I miss anybody?” there is what sounds like a female replying, “I
dunno – no”.
During Mario’s investigation in the front of the tomb, he held his EVP recorder up to the
keyhole on the metal door and asked, “Could you please make a sound?” and his recorder revealed that an
immediate “stomping” sound can be heard. As Mario continues to talk, he says “…and
maybe hit this. Could you do that please?” and shortly thereafter, a male voice can
be heard replying a word that sounds like, “c’mon”.
When we were ready to wrap up the investigation, we were saying our goodbyes and Sue said, “We
leave you in love and peace” and immediately thereafter there is the sound of two taps.
Our Evidence – In the Back of the Tomb:
As a group, we were all standing
in the back of the tomb and I said, “Can you make the K2 meter blink red?” and a female voice can be heard
saying “yup”. Approximately 9 seconds after the word "yup", you can hear a very faint
"yup." Upon reviewing all our pictures, I found that I had taken a
picture in the back of the tomb and we can see approximately 7 orbs.
Our
Findings:
At this point, we do not have enough evidence to say the tomb is haunted, but because we did get
some hot spots with unexplained energy, some orbs and some concrete EVP’s, we can say there is definitely
some paranormal activity. We would like to return at a later date to do another
investigation.
